Imagine having walked a certain length around a central point several times. You have walked that same area enough times and made it your own. Then you decided that you will put some sort of borders, boundaries to seclude and secure this area and you decided that you do not wish to go further out than that. You decided to stay within those boundaries, not because you necessarily are completely content within this area – the Zone – but because it feels safe, known and what happens in it is predictable. This might be feel right when you first established this, because it gave you a certain level or comfort and ease. And perhaps you have sat and moved around these boundaries thinking that you are content with it. You have just created a comfort zone!
However, the innate need of expansion that lies within your soul triggers your curiosity to know how your life would be outside those borders. It creates the desire to taste something more, something different, to achieve something more or to become something greater. Many times you look at the horizon outside the Zone and you start thinking that it might be good for you to experience what’s out there. However, these thoughts bring a great sense of anxiety and fear which are so overwhelming they do not allow you to make even a step outside the boundaries you have created. Or maybe you attempted many times to come out of the Zone and you did not like it, or did not have a good experience. So that makes you even more reluctant to go any further.
Now, though, what’s happening is that staying within an unfulfilling routine of beingness becomes an even more painful experience than the one you are fearing to have outside the Zone. In addition, you see others who had the courage to step out of their comfort zones enjoying more success than you. But you also see some others falling flat on their face when they stepped out of their zone. This inner battle – between staying within the Zone, or leaving it – becomes too much and the indecision feels as if something huge is tearing your heart apart. So what do you do?
Well, now you are in a critical point of your evolution. Decisions need to be taken. The good news is that you still have choices. You are still the ultimate decision maker – at least for a while. What are your choices? Let’s see:
There is no right or wrong decision here. However, if where you are proves to be unfruitful and unfulfilling for you in many levels, stepping out of your present comfort zone is most likely a MUST step for you.
Here I would like to share with you a lovely poem on comfort zones which I’m sure you will find inspiring:
I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn’t fail.
The same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.
I said it didn’t matter that I wasn’t doing much.
I said I didn’t care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.
I couldn’t let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I’d never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.
If you’re in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.
Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!
