I don’t know where to start – so I don’t start at all
How to help yourself get unstuck
by Linda Anderson
We all know how much easier life seems when we’re energetically in balance, feeling calm and grounded. EFT is a brilliant tool to reach that space but, like any tool, it only works when you use it. And sometimes it’s hard to get started.
You’re having problems with the kids, your partner seems distant, you’ve got money worries, health worries, your job’s looking insecure, the dishwasher’s broken down, the cat’s been sick again ...
If you’ve ever felt so overwhelmed by all the stuff going on in your life that just don’t know where to start tapping ... so you rarely do ... you’re not alone!
Here are some simple steps to help you get started again:
- Focus in on the sense of overwhelm and ask yourself “What’s the most bothersome piece of all this? What’s bugging me the most right now and what do I feel about it?”
- Next have a look see where you’re feeling that feeling in your body. What does it feel like? Can you describe the shape, colour, texture or any other quality to help you really connect with that feeling in your body?
- Note the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and start tapping, using your description of the physical sensation as a focus, for example, this tight red ball of anger in my stomach.
- Be alert to any beliefs, thoughts, memories or new feelings that arise as you tap that physical feeling down. These will give you clues where to go next with the tapping. If you don’t have time to pursue them immediately, write them down as subjects for future sessions.
- When you’re feeling calmer, incorporate some positive choices into your tapping statements. For example, I choose to connect with my inner strength, I choose to feel calm and grounded, I choose to balance my energy, I choose to find surprising new ways to handle this, I choose peace instead, I prefer peace, etc.
- Take a deep breath and step forward with confidence, knowing you’re energetically in balance and in the best possible space to meet the challenges of your daily life.

Keep tapping!
